Veronica P Williams Holmes, is a self-taught multi disciplinary visual artist acrylic, graphite, pastel, watercolor, oil, including pen and ink.
Art has been her interest as long as she could remember. As a child growing up in Jamaica, rainy days were her favorite that meant grabbing her pencil with paper, it's drawing time; her 'man picking breadfruit' was 'classic'. She tells the story of her mother giving her a comic book, with the “draw deer” image on the back of it, Veronica finished the drawing but her mother thought she had traced it. She sat and watched Veronica redo the image and was very impressed. Veronica’s mother nurtured her talent and was her biggest supporter.
Veronica migrated to the USA at age 17 and attended Kolbe Cathedral High School in Bridgeport, Ct there her art teacher saw her talent, presented her work in several school art shows and encouraged her at length to attend art school to pursue an art career. Veronica took a different path in life and later on she attended Northern Essex Community College, in Haverhill, MA to combine her artistic skills to explore and learn graphic design.
When asked about her talent, Veronica’s response will always be, “it is God given, and I just feel very comfortable with a brush or with a pencil in hand expressing an idea.” Her inspiration and influences are memories of Jamaica, the lifestyle, culture, religion and people. She likes to spend time observing the things of nature, people and their various expressions.
Veronica currently resides in Lowell, Massachusetts, a place she refers to as the renaissance city, it is rich with and bursting at the seams with diversity of the arts and cultures of the immigrants that flows in. She participates in the local shows and annual art festivals, also shares her talent partnering with a few non-profit agencies being a teaching artist. She considers Lowell a great fit for her, and her dream of having a gallery will come about in this city.
Veronica also has a great love for photography, and travels often with a camera, 'it is exciting to capture expression or images that are frozen for ever. She sees photography and painting as one in the same in terms of composition and the passion to be creative.
Two years ago Veronica collaborated with Donna Mitchelson former Lowell/Illustrator artist and wrote the children's book “The Little Brown Mouse With the Lavender Bow”. it is currently on sale at Amazon.
